| Nanny Australia would like to introduce you to the Au Pair program and we would like to start with the basics on how to become an Au Pair. The course aims to provide you with a more in-depth knowledge about the development and care of children, playing ideas for different age groups, discipline techniques and housekeeping at your host family home. We will also introduce you to the skills needed to start the process of being an Au-Pair. Once completing the course we would recommend you also complete a CPR course. |
| We do not have a time limit to this course but it is important you read all the information and email us if you have any questions. You can do this course in your own time, before you start your work as an Au Pair. Please also notice we provide one week placements before you start work in a child care centre or kids entertainment centre. It is a good way to start your new child care experience in Australia. |

| Module 1: Introduction to Childcare, 250 words-tell us why you love children |
| This module looks at what qualities are considered good qualities to have when taking on the role of an Au-Pair. We would like you to consider all good and bad aspects of the job before you make up your mind, we would also encourage you to write down all the things you love about children and email it to us. |
| Module 2: Birth to 12 Months, safety and play tips |
This module will give you a general information on how babies develop from birth to 12 months. We also include teaching and play tips you will be able to use once working as an Au Pair.
This module covers the following areas:
- Safety at home for a baby.
- Basic Handling.
- Different development stages.
- Feeding and sleeping.
- Playing tips.

| Module 3: Infant Care - daily needs and more |
This module leads on from module 2 and talks about sleeping problems and further feeding techniques.
This module looks at:
- Sleeping problems and care.
- Making own baby food.
- Feeding techniques.
- Playing tips.

| Module 4: How to care after Toddlers 1-2 years |
This module looks at the development of a child. It is a period often considered one of the most difficult stages in the child’s life. This is also a time when the baby is not a baby anymore and becomes a toddler, we introduce you to different playing techniques.
This module is divided into:
- Developmental milestones.
- Feeding a toddler.
- Playing tips you can use when looking after the child.

| Module 5: From Toddler into Pre-school Years |
Pre-school children change their emotional and physical development before entering school. Most children learn to be independent and communicate effectively.
This module looks at:
- Child’s development.
- Physical development.
- Cognitive development.
- Emotional and social development.
- Language.
- Sensory and motor development.
- Activities and play tips.

| Module 6: School Age Children |
In this module we look at children aged between 5 and 12 yrs old.
In this module we will look at:
- Development of new hobbies and interests.
- General emotional and physical development.

| Module 7: How to teach a child discipline |
| In this module we look at ideas and how to discipline a child. You need to be able to stand firm but be gentle and remember, whilst you are not their parents, you are still entitled to have children who are respectful to you. Each child has a different personality and you will need to get the child to know to be effective with your limit settings. |
| Module 8: Self care housekeeping |
In this module, you will learn the basics about household duties and the working conditions. Being an Au Pair is not an easy job, you are manly coming . At the end of the module you will have a better understanding of what to check for and how to plan for an emergency. Included in this module is a form that we recommend you use when starting a position with a family to ascertain the procedure for an emergency.

- Working conditions for live in aupairs and using the family's telephone, computer etc.
