Au Pair FAQ
Q. Who qualifies to be an Au Pair?
A. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 28. Applicants must provide two childcare references, one character reference, a medical report and a police clearance report. In addition, applicants must be interviewed in English.
Q. How do I apply to be an Au Pair?
A. Please complete the Au Pair registration form on our website.
Q. Do the Au Pair’s require private health insurance while living in Australia?
A. Yes, All Au Pairs are required to have some sort of Private Health insurance while living in Australia.
Q. What are the Au Pair's responsibilities?
A. The Au Pairs are required to work 25- 35 hours per week of caring for the children, preparing meals and packing lunches, bathing, cleaning play area, children's laundry and making beds. Au pairs are also expected to clean up after themselves and behave as an extended member of the host family.
Q. How much are the Au Pair’s paid?
A. Currently starting from $180 (AUD) per week. It is calculated depending on the workload.
Q. How long can an Au Pair stay in Australia after completing their time with a host family?
A. Please refer to the working holiday section on the Immigration website. (www.immi.gov.au)
Q. Do Au Pairs clean the house or do other domestic duties?
A. No, the Au Pair is treated as an extended member of the host family. Normally the Au Pair is required to pick up after the children, prepare snacks, lunches, do children's laundry and performing regular chores. In some cases the Au Pair might be required to other household chores in return for an extra payment.
Q. Is it necessary for the Au Pair to drive a car?
A. It depends on a case by case basis but all most all host families require that their Au Pair have a driver’s license and be able to drive safely.
Q. Does an Au Pair have her/his own bedroom?
A. Yes.
Q. Can an Au Pair do extra work for extra money?
A. Yes, Au Pair’s can do extra work for extra money.
Q. Can the Au Pair travel?
A. Yes, Au Pairs may travel freely within Australia. If traveling out of Australia with the host family, the Au Pair must research and comply with the specific visa rules and regulations of the destination country prior to departure.
